Ama Dablam is one of the most beautiful peaks on the planet! The calling card of the Khumbu Valley and all of Nepal, a "must do" for anyone who is seriously into climbing. Ama Dablam is a dream peak, as beautiful as it is challenging. It is a real challenge which can be climbed only by the strongest and most experienced.
To acclimatize before such a serious summit we climb the most popular Nepalese peak, Island Peak (6,189m). It also has some technical complexity, which will allow you not only to adapt to the altitude, but also to practice your skills with special equipment.
Our route will partially pass through one of the most famous and popular treks of Nepal, to the BC Everest. From the Dingboche village, overlooking Lhotse 8000-nik, we will head to BC Island Peak. After the ascent of Island, we will transfer to BC Ama Dablam and with good acclimatization we will go to the main ascent.
We will climb (we will try) two six-thousanders in one program. It is the most valuable experience and good addition to your climbing history.
Climbing Ama Dablam is a very serious challenge even for skilled climbers. Experience of summits over 6,000 meters (Mera Peak, Aconcagua) or Kazbek/Monblan in the off-season or winter period is obligatory. Experience of technically difficult peaks, e.g. Matterhorn is extremely desirable. You should have excellent coordination, climbing skills, jumar and belaying device skills. Our teamleaders will be sure to give you a briefing, check and help you improve your skills.
The group is led by at least 2 Kuluar teamleaders. It is obligatory to have an experienced Nepalese Sherpa guide, a climber of many eight-thousanders, and several Sherpa porters with the group.

You can arrive at any time, on the flights that are convenient for you. You will be met at the exit of the airport by our teamleader or a Nepali assistant. In the evening teamleaders will conduct a briefing and over dinner the participants will get acquainted.
We close all the organizational issues and get ready for the ascent of Ama Dablam. Teamleaders will check the equipment of each participant, and if there is something missing, we will buy it all. If we have free time and wish we will have a walk to Swayambhunath monkey temple, from which there are great views of Kathmandu!
Departure to Lukla on early flights. Meeting with Nepalese guide, liaison officer and porters. In Lukla (2800m) we will spend a few hours repacking bags, buying gas and completing formalities. The guides will take care of that, while the participants can eat at one of the lodges. Then we go to Phakding (2600 m), where we stay for the night. The hike of 8 km, will take about three hours.
From Phakding we go up the picturesque Dudh Kosi Gorge to Namche, the capital of the Sherpas (3440). On the way we will have the first view of Everest and Lhotse. Here we will stay in a lodge and take a light hike to the Tensing Norgei monument, the first climber of Everest.
To give our bodies time to adapt to the new heights, we make a rest day in Namche. This does not mean that we will sit in place - quite the opposite. Today we will visit the famous Everest View Hotel, walk through Kumjung village where Bigfoot scalp is kept, climb up to Hillary Memorial (4000 m). All day we will be accompanied by views of the highest peaks in the Himalayas - Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,516m), Nuptse (7,861m). But visually the highest and most beautiful of all will be the peak Ama Dablam, the ascent to which is the main goal of our trip to Nepal.
Admiring the giant peaks surrounding us, we will reach the legendary monastery in Thiangboche (3860). Here or just below in the village of Deboche we will stop for the night. In Thiangboche we will try to attend a puja and ask the gods for a successful ascent of Ama Dablam and Island Peak!
Along the beautiful path, winding through the rhododendron forest, we will go down to the bridge over the river, after which the long ascent to Pangboche begins. All day we will be accompanied by views of Everest and Lhotse, but it is Ama Dablan, the dream peak for many climbers, that fascinates us. Gradually we will leave the forest area and come to the village of Dingboche (4350), where we will spend the night.
We'll gain altitude smoothly and lightly on the nearby peaks. For the first time in the program we will cross the 5000 m mark. All the time we will have views of the surrounding eight-thousanders, as well as Nupjie, Barunjie and Island and Ama-Dablam themselves. In the distance we will see the black pyramid of Makalu (8,485 m).
Short trek to Chukung (about 3 hours) to the altitude of 4750. After that we will go again to the radial hike for the next portion of active acclimatization.
From Chukung we move to BC Island Peak (5087). We have a rest, with the help of teamleaders we adjust and check our equipment.
From BC we will ascend to the summit camp at 5600. Here is the control check of the equipment and the condition of the group. Tomorrow is the early exit to the summit!
We leave after dark. With flashlights, we ascend a steep rocky couloir that takes us to a sharp ridge. Immediately behind the ridge there is a snow and ice plateau. On the way there will be a big crack, which we will pass by stairs. Further there is a flatter section and sharp, almost vertical ascent of 150-200 meters.
Here we are going to do really good climbing! We come to the edge of the ridge, a few tens of meters - and we are on top!
On the same day we will try to go down to Chukung.
We will do our best to climb the mountain. But the weather can make a difference. In this case we have a reserve day.
We leave early to have more time to rest. We go down to Pangboche (3,900 m). The rest of the day we just rest and recuperate in the green area.
We continue to gain strength and breathe the oxygenated air below 4000 meters in Pangboche :-). On the main ascent we will need all our strength! During the day teamleaders will check all the gear again before heading out to Ama Dablam.
From Pangboche we go to Ama-Dablam BC (4500). We stay in tents at the base camp.
Today we ascend to the advanced base camp (ABC) at an altitude of 5100. The route will pass through a glacier moraine surrounded by many snowy peaks.
From ABC we will ascend to the 1st camp (5670) directly on the SE ridge. Today we are going to move on the rocks and the first steep sections. This day we can see what Ama-Dablam is so famous for - the depth of the surrounding precipices and steepness of the ridges!
Along the rocky ridge we climb to the camp 2 (5944). The movement takes place on the railings on the clamps, because the relief is quite difficult. Inspiring views, difficult terrain, and at the end of the day - the unique Camp 2, which is located at the top of the gendarme rocky tower.
Climbing to summit camp 3 (6300). Today a real alpine combined relief awaits us: rocks, ice, snow, movement on fancy ridges and ice walls. The ascent is not easy, and the overnight stay is high. But it will save us time on the decisive exit tomorrow.
The decisive day of the whole expedition is the day of the assault. We leave early and move along the famous hanging glacier. Then the gentler snow slopes lead us to the huge snowfield of the summit! From here Everest, Lhotse, and other peaks seem very close! We take pictures, spend some time on the summit (depending on the weather) and start descending. We try to go down to one of the lower camps.
We continue our descent to the base camp. Only here we can finally congratulate each other with successful climbing Ama-Dablam! We are very good!
We leave early, today we have a long trekking to Namche Bazaar, where we will finally have all the benefits of civilization: comfortable lodge, showers, coffee, cakes and good internet.
We take the familiar route back to Lukla.
We try to catch an early flight to Kathmandu. We check into the hotel, unpack our gear and rest.
Today we have a free program, during which teamleaders will help arrange visits to points of interest: Buddhanath stupa, Monkey Temple, visit the ancient city Bhaktapur, etc. In case of bad weather in the mountains, we can use this day as a backup.
In the evening, a farewell dinner and presentation Kuluar certificates.
The ascent of Ama Dablam is completed. We will try to get the official certificates of the Nepalese Mountain Association today and give them to you. We recommend taking tickets for evening flights, as this day can be used as another backup.
IMPORTANT: the decision on the possibility or impossibility to continue the ascent is made solely by teamleaders, is binding in execution and is not subject to discussion. We are interested in as many participants as possible to climb the summit, but safety always comes first!

To participate in the program, you need to take good insurance that is valid at altitudes up to 6,500 m, covers mountain hiking, and includes helicopter evacuation. Please do not neglect this point. Climbing Ama Dablam is a very difficult program both technically and physically. Solid altitude combined with great technical complexity makes climbing Ama Dablam a real challenge even for experienced climbers. You will need excellent physical fitness and the ability to use special equipment.
Ama Dablam is a real challenge which can be reached only by the strongest and the most resolute!
We strongly recommend you to approach the question of preparation carefully. Start running 3-5 months before your planned ascent. A 10 km run at a quiet pace should not be difficult for you. If there is an opportunity to measure heart rate - run at a pulse of 130-140 beats per minute. If there is no such possibility - run at a pace at which you can talk. Be sure to sign up for a rock climbing gym and go to practice 2-3 times a week. You will need strong arms and skillful coordination.
To participate in the ascent of Ama Dablam you must have climbed one of the peaks above 6,000 meters or 5k in the off-season, as well as a technical summit of the Matterhorn level. And in order to climb 6,000, you must climb 5,000. In total you get at least three climbs, which can be broken down into blocks.
Without the necessary experience, it is not possible to climb Ama Dablam.
Weather conditions are one of the most important factors in successful climbing. The weather in the mountains changes very rapidly. To summarize, it is usually good in the morning, but in the evening it gets worse. At altitude in the evening and at night is very cold, the temperature "by feeling" (taking into account the strength of the wind) may go down to -20 -25 Celsius. The sun is often in the daytime, at such altitudes it is especially dangerous. The sun's rays are reflected from the snow and you burn instantly. Do not forget to take sunscreen!
