Safety precautions for climbing in the Kuluar Club
Climbing is a potentially dangerous activity, so following basic rules and safety precautions is essential.
The first and most important rule is to strictly follow the instructions of the Kuluar team leader!
We also ask all participants to be friendly with each other!
Please do not do this (it is forbidden):
- To use equipment that has not been approved by the coordinator and/or team leader, and to use safety equipment that is not certified according to international standards.
- During the movement of the group on the approach, or if the climbing is carried out without bundles, to change the direction of movement without permission, to leave the group without the knowledge of the team leader.
- To untie or detach from the bundle without the knowledge and permission of the guide or team leader.
- Not having belaying and/or not being in a bundle, to come close to cliffs, steep slopes, ridges and other dangerous areas. To climb rocky ledges or trees without permission of the team leader or guide.
- To run down steep slopes, to jump down small ledges while driving, to drive down snow slopes while sitting on the snow.
- To throw garbage (including organic garbage), cigarette butts and other trash on the trail, and to break down live trees and bushes.
- To eat snow or ice, it does not quench thirst.
- Consumption of alcohol in the morning and at crossings is strictly prohibited, and in the evening is not recommended. After drinking alcohol, Kuluar Save and insurance policy are not valid
- To go to mountain shelters and huts in crampons – so you spoil the floor (in the Alps especially for this, many lounge rooms are made with a rubber floor).
- In case of unforeseen situations – to panic and make decisions on your own. There is a team leader for that:).
- Move with headphones with music on. If you want, ask the team leader if you can. In certain places it is acceptable, and they will tell you so. In most cases on a climb – it is dangerous for both you and the rest of the participants.
- Participate in climbs not in Ukraine without a health insurance policy of the appropriate category (type of activity, altitude, etc.).
Immediately inform the team leader if:
- You have chronic illnesses or health problems (we ask for the same information when you fill in the form, and the team leader will get it from the coordinator, but it is never superfluous to remind).
- You have something that hurts, freezes, gets in the way or something out of order.
- You have any complaints or are dissatisfied with something (it's better to say it right away, and we'll try to solve it, than to save your negative emotions, because you are on vacation after all :)).
Be careful
- Staying near working gas equipment in bivouacs.
- Be sure to use sunscreen and sunglasses/masks, and follow your team leader's advice on when it's best to do so. Serious burns and eye injuries are very common, even for non beginners.
- Take your water and salt regimen very seriously. It is very important at altitude. Have water or tea with you, use isotonic.
- When moving without a bundle, remember about the safe distance, on the steep sections try not to get too close to those ahead of you, and be careful with your trekking poles, and keep an eye on someone else's 🙂 .
- In gusts or strong winds, keep an eye on your gear, so you don't lose it.
Rental and group equipment
Treat group equipment with care and take care of rental equipment. After all, in case of its failure or loss, you will have to reimburse the full cost of repair or buy a new one. Try not to trample on the ropes (the integrity of the rope is your safety too), don't climb into the tent with sharp equipment, and don't put backpacks with crampons/ice-axes strapped inside.
Let's work together to make us all happier after the hike and have lots of great memories.
