Climbing Lenin Peak (Abu Ali ibn Sina) (7134 m) in 2024 is your chance to get to the seventh level of the planet and test yourself in really high mountains.
Climbing is carried out by the classical route from the north side. Technically, the way is not very difficult, equated to the second category. But we should not forget about the altitude. It will be very hard to breathe at 7000k and to make one step, it is necessary to make considerable efforts. It will also be cold and windy. Good physical condition, persistence, appropriate equipment and luck are essential for those willing to climb Lenin.
The program includes several reserve days in case of bad weather.
Experience in climbing peaks above 5000 is compulsory.

We meet in the morning in the Osh city. There are a lot of tourists and, accordingly, tourist services. After all, it is from here that hundreds of groups set off on the route to climb the famous Lenin Peak. After getting ready and purchasing everything you need, we take a hired transport to our first base camp, beautifully called "Edelweiss Glade". It is the last point on the route with conditional civilization. There is a bathhouse, shower, toilet, kitchen, café and yurts. We will stay in a tent camp.
If yesterday we arrived and checked in after dark, then today is just the right time to look around. After all, the camp is located in a very picturesque place, surrounded by colorful slopes, with proudly acting snow-white and majestic Petrovsky peak, XX Part Siezd and the most important - Lenin Peak! In order not to waste time and get used to the altitude, today we will go on a radial walk to the Lukovaya glade and climb Puteshestvennikov Pass.
We continue acclimatization. Today we will ascend to the altitude of 4700 m, to the snowy summit of Petrovsky peak. The whole hike will take about 6-7 hours. It is amazing how at such short distances the natural zones change. Starting with alpine meadows, we will pass through mountain tundra and even mountain desert, where there is not a single plant or animal. And even higher up, perpetual snow begins. We'll practice moving in the crampons. And so, a couple of hours later, we're at the top. Snow-white clouds float below us and eagles soar. We are surrounded by charming landscapes of the Pamirs, and our main goal is Lenin Peak. In two weeks we plan to summit it. In the meanwhile we have lunch break and go down to the Base Camp. In the evening we will have lessons in knotting and using climbing equipment.
Today we have to hike to Camp 1, which is 800 meters above base camp. Our way passes through a clearing of marmots, where these animals are tossing underfoot, whistling among themselves, not paying attention to us at all. Further on we climb Puteshestvennikov Pass (4128 m). It almost always snows and strong wind blows. Be prepared for that. After a short descent we take a long, flat trail, which will lead us to Lenin glacier. Camp 1 is located in the moraine of the glacier. This is one of the most comfortable places here. We'll set up camp, where we'll spend two nights.
There is a good summit near the camp, about 5000m. It will suit us well for gaining acclimatization, so necessary for the successful ascent of Lenin Peak. We leave our things in the camp and go for a light hike. In the evening we have practical training in the use of special equipment.
We will go early enough, at 3-4 in the morning, to pass the risky part of the glacier with as little danger as possible. We will go in crampons and bundles of 4-5 people. Upon reaching the North Face we will start climbing up the steep enough snowy slope. Be careful, there may be cracks along the way. Further on we traverse to the huge open plateau, which climbers called "Skovoroda" (frying pan). This is because the sun burns very quickly here, reflecting off the snow. Be sure to bring a supply of water and a good quality sunscreen. Upon arrival at camp, we set up our tents and make our living arrangements.
We went through an acclimatization program. We plan to climb up to the altitude of 5800 m. We hike slowly, getting used to the altitude. At the same time we enjoy the panoramas around us.
Today's trek will take about 5 hours, climbing up to 800 m. The trail to the next Camp 3 goes first along the ridge slope, then rises to the Razdelnaya peak (6148 m) and slightly descends to the jumper, at 6100 m. Here we will spend the night. You should take a kit with diakarb or other similar preparations. Sleeping at 6100 m above sea level is not easy.
To renew strength and prepare the body for the ascent, we go down to Camp 1. Though it took us several days to get up here, the descent will take only 5 hours. At the camp we can have a good rest, take a hot shower and have a hearty meal.
We continue our descent to Base Camp, where we started our acclimatization program. We return from the snows and glaciers to the green blooming glade. If desired, we will go for a short walk to the picturesque mountain lake or take a steam bath in the camp.
We use this day as a reserve day in case for some reasons we strayed from the acclimatization program. If everything goes according to plan, we have an active day of rest. We can walk around the area around the camp, play volleyball on a specially equipped platform, or think of other interesting things to do. The main thing is to move, so the body better cope with high-altitude loads.
We suggest organizing a photo day today. Around Achik-Tash valley there are a lot of lakes, small and large. You should definitely use this opportunity to admire such beauties and take some pictures for memory.
We acclimatizated asuccessfully. From this day we started only upwards - to the top of Lenin Peak. Passage to the familiar Camp 1.
We continue to move upward, closer to the cherished goal. This time the ascent is much easier. It's easier to breathe, easier to move your legs. The main thing is not to relax too much and to control your body. On the moraine of the glacier at Camp 2 there is relatively little room for tents, so we will squeeze in with the other future climbers. I think there will be an opportunity to meet famous and interesting people.
Well, here is the last push before the climb. We trek to Camp 3 below the Razdelnaya peak.
From the overnighting place to the summit we are separated by 1000m in altitude. Early rise, drinking tea and a candy bar. About 4 am we start climbing. Straight from the camp starts sharp rise of 300 meters. Further there is flat, but very dangerous trekking along the narrow ice and snow ridge. We need to be very careful and watchful while climbing it. Soon we will come out to the snowy plateau. The summit is absolutely close, only 200m to it by height. So, making the last effort and gathering our strength, we are gradually climbing to the summit of Peak Lenin. Congratulations! You have reached 7134m above sea level! We have half an hour to catch our breath, look around majestic snowy peaks of the Pamirs, and take a picture for memory. It is not every day that we climb a 7,000 meter peak. Coming down by the same route to Camp 3. We spend the night at an altitude of 6100 m. The ascent to the summit takes 10-12 hours, the descent takes about 5 hours.
If we weren't lucky with the weather yesterday, we'll try our luck today. But let's hope we'll get it right the first time. And we will use this day for sightseeing in Osh. It is a very beautiful and ancient city with a lot of sights, which we definitely recommend you to see.
We pack our tents, backpacks, and go down as far as Camp 1. Here you can celebrate your successful ascent, share your experience and impressions with other climbers, and cheer up those who are only going to the summit.
We go down to Base Camp. It's sunny, warm, and home-like. Tonight we are going to have a festive dinner in the mountains, with traditional Kyrgyz cuisine.
We say goodbye to the Pamir mountains, which has bestowed us with its beauty and let us approach its peaks. We load into the car and drive back to Osh. After checking into the hotel, we'll have a couple of hours to clean up and shower. And then we all go for a walk in the evening city.
We pack our backpack, say goodbye to our new friends, and go to the airport. At home we are already waiting for our heroes. We fly away, watching the snowy peaks from the plane window, thinking over everything that we have been through in these three weeks, and maybe we start to make plans for future ascents. Well, shall we go higher?
Warning. Despite the fact that Lenin Peak is considered one of the easiest peaks, climbing to the top is a potentially life-threatening activity. Any misstep or carelessness may have consequences. Among the main risk factors are: high altitude - altitude sickness, low temperatures - frostbite, steep slopes - falls from high altitude. The main thing for us is your safety, and experienced guides will do everything possible for you to return alive, healthy and with the summit. Each single participant, realizing and understanding all possible risks, independently makes decision on participation in this program of climbing Lenin Peak and bears full responsibility for his activity or inactivity.
The decision about possibility or impossibility to continue climbing is made only by teamleader and is obligatory and is not a subject for discussion. We are interested in as many of our participants as possible to climb the mountain, but safety always comes first.
Depending on the weather conditions and general wishes of the group, teamleader has the right to make changes in the itinerary. Decisions of teamleader are binding and not subject to discussion.
Citizens of Ukraine do not need a visa to visit Kyrgyzstan. It is enough to present a valid passport.
Important! For registration of pass to the frontier zone, you have to send us scanned copy of your foreign passport not later than one month before the expedition.
You must have no illnesses from this list in order to participate in the hike.
Today more than a dozen of climbing routes, from different sides and of different complexity categories, have been developed. The easiest route in technical respect is the classical route from the north side, which has been climbed for the first time in 1954 under the guidance of V. Kovalev. Since then many things have changed, at the foot of the mountain formed a whole infrastructure of services. And if 50 years ago the top reached a few, now there are more than a hundred people a year. But this figure is only a fifth of all those who tried to climb. The rest were prevented by weather, altitude sickness, lack of acclimatization or fitness and lack of confidence in their abilities.

There are no direct flights from Ukraine, you have to fly through Bishkek or other cities. Tickets start at $450. From Osh airport you can get to the city by mini-buses #107 and #142, which go from 07:00 to 21:00, costing 11 KGS ($0.15). To participate in the program, you need to take good insurance that is valid at altitudes up to 7000 m, covers mountain hiking, and includes helicopter evacuation. Please do not neglect this point. The most favorable season for climbing is July and August, because in these months the region is rarely cloudy and foggy. It is during these months that we plan our climbs.
One of the most important conditions for a successful ascent is the weather. It often determines whether or not you will make it to the summit. The climate at Lenin Peak is characterized by large temperature variations. It can be +5 during the day and drop to -30 or lower at night. Often it is warm enough in the sun, plus temperature, and after a couple of meters in the shade can be about 0. Squall winds are mostly in the daytime, by night everything calms down.
In the Base Camp and Camp 1, we sleep in heated yurts. The camps have electricity, a canteen, hot showers, toilets, a bathhouse, and satellite communication (there is no mobile communication on the route). In high mountain camps 2 and 3 we sleep in tents. Food will be cooked on gas burners for the whole group. There will be full-fledged hot food on the lower parking lots, and nutritious sublimates on the higher ones.
If you don't have your own equipment, you can rent it. Backpack and sleeping bag should be taken in your town, for availability of tents check with us. Crampons, ice axe, systems can be taken as in your city, or on arrival at the start.
Although Lenin Peak is called one of the most accessible 7,000m peaks, it is not a walk. You have to be physically well prepared and (!) have experience of a long stay at the heights of about 5,000m in order to take part in the program. Before ascent, 3-4 months before the start, make sure you include jogging in your schedule 2-3 times a week (if before that for some reason you were not actively involved in running). This way you will prepare your body for high physical loads and increase its endurance.
Additional costs: porter services, depending on the altitude - $ 7-15 / kg per day; transportation of cargo on horseback between camps - $ 1.5 / kg.
