Trekking in Montenegro is an excellent way to explore the nature of this beautiful country. Rocky mountains, green fields, blooming meadows, shady canyons and rushing rivers – all of this awaits you in the "Dinaric Alps" Montenegro program.
We will visit two of the most beautiful mountain regions – Durmitor and Prokletije, where we will hike with backpacks and sleep in tents. We will also climb the highest peak of the country – Zla Kolata mountain (2535 m).
The best season for trekking in Montenegro is spring, early summer and autumn. It's already warm enough, but without the peak summer heat.

We will visit 2 canyons – Komarnica and Nevidio (the narrowest canyon in Europe)
We cover the entire route with backpacks, which gives us the opportunity to be as close to the country's nature as possible and experience all the benefits of real trekking.

We will ascend Zla Kolata (2,535m) – the highest point of Montenegro
Group meeting in the capital of Montenegro – Podgorica. We travel by bus to the town of Šavnik. This is where the active part of our trek begins. We will see the narrowest canyon in Europe – Nevidio. Special equipment is required to pass through it. Our route goes through the simple and beautiful canyon of the Komarnica River, where our first night camping awaits.
We will cover 9 km
We continue along the canyon of the Komarnica River, admiring the beautiful mountain river and its waterfalls. Leaving the canyon behind, we enter the realm of Durmitor's peaks, the main one being Bobotov Kuk. We rest in tents and prepare for tomorrow's ascent.
We will cover 10 km
Ascent of Bobotov Kuk peak (2523 m). At the pass before the summit, we leave our backpacks and climb the mountain unencumbered. In places, you need to hold on to fixed ropes for safety, but there is nothing difficult on the ascent. And here it is – the highest point of Durmitor. We return to our backpacks and descend from the pass into the Katun Lokvice valley.
We will cover 10 km
In the first half of the day, we will make a radial ascent to the Medjed ridge. We leave our backpacks and climb to the pass, from which the trail begins to lead us along a narrow mountain ridge. Once again, safety cables come to our aid. Another moment and we are at the summit of Južni vrh (2285 m). After that, we move on to Severni vrh (2287 m) – this is the highest point of the Medjed ridge, which translates as "bear". We return to our backpacks and descend to the town of Žabljak. Overnight at a campsite.
We will walk 8 km
In the morning, a walk along the shores of the Black Lake and getting acquainted with Žabljak – the mountain capital of Montenegro – await us. But, unfortunately, we won't have long to relax here. A new mountain massif – Prokletije – awaits us. We travel from Žabljak to Gusinje (a town dating back to the 14th century). From here, Albania is just a stone's throw away. We set up camp for the night on the bank of the Grlja River, near a waterfall.
We will walk 10 km
Today we are heading to the highest point of Montenegro – Zla Kolata peak (2535 m). The way to it is not short, but we will cover it without backpacks. Along the way you can snack on raspberries, peek into an ice cave and simply enjoy a new mountain range unlike Durmitor. The summit itself stands on the border of Montenegro and Albania. From it you can see both the Albanian Prokletije peaks and half of Montenegro.
We will cover 23 km
Today we rest a little and continue along the Grlja river. Along the way we will visit Oko Skakavice lake with incredibly clear water. The bravest will be able to swim, as the water temperature there is no more than 5 degrees. The final point of today's route is the old border post of Katun. Here we will set up our camp before climbing Jezerca mountain.
We will cover 6 km
Climbing the highest summit of our trek – Jezerca peak (2694 m). Through a mountain pass we will cross into Albania. We will walk through a valley with beautiful lakes and giant overhanging cliffs. Today there will be sections of snowfields, scree and even moments of easy climbing. But the summit is worth it. It is the highest mountain in the Prokletije range.
We will cover 15 km
We return along the familiar road to Gusinje. Then a transfer awaits us across almost the entire country to the city of Kotor. We settle into a hostel and admire the old town, which is under UNESCO protection. We swim in Kotor Bay.
We will cover 11 km
This is the final day of our trek through Montenegro. We take a farewell swim in the sea and head to Podgorica or Tivat. Those who wish can extend their holiday by the sea.
To book a spot in the group, you need to make a deposit of 100 dollars. If you cancel the trip, the money is non-refundable, but it can be transferred to another participant or kept on your "account" to pay for future trips. The remaining cost of the trip can be paid by card transfer (no later than a week before the start) or given to the instructor on the first day of the hike. If you drop out of the route, the money is non-refundable.
The consultant will advise you on gear, help you find the best flight, and share information about hotels and excursions. You make payments and purchases yourself. If you want the consultant to buy a ticket for you, this is possible, but for an additional fee, as it is a significant responsibility. More in the article: additional services and service fee.
Depending on weather conditions, the group's condition, and overall wishes, the team leader has the right to make changes to the route.
No visa is required to visit Montenegro for up to 30 days.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date – please check this before buying flights.
Winter in Iceland is warm, and the temperature rarely drops below -5 Celsius. But there will definitely be strong winds, which can make the temperature feel like -15. So bring warm clothes and raincoats.

You're probably wondering what we'll be eating on the trek? Right away, let us say you don't need to worry. Many participants say that they eat better on the trek than at home. The menu is based on simple food – porridges and soups. Don't expect fancy delicacies (although they may happen too).
If there are any foods you don't eat, be sure to let your consultant know so the team leader can slightly adjust the menu for you. We also recommend bringing some pocket treats – nuts or sweets. Your appetite on the trek is much better than at home.
Please note that the menu shown is approximate. Team leaders usually have their own signature dishes they love to treat participants with.

The total amount of mandatory additional expenses will be 0 euros. We made the route as well-thought-out as possible so you won't be left guessing how much your vacation will cost. If you arrive a day earlier, let your consultant know – she will coordinate with you and help book a hostel so the whole group stays in one place.
