A trek through the Julian Alps — one of Slovenia’s most iconic mountain ranges. We start in Ljubljana, visit the picturesque Lake Bled, and then head into the highlands from Lake Bohinj. Over the course of four days, we cross several mountain passes, spend nights in alpine huts, and finish the route near a waterfall.
The itinerary includes over 30 km of mountain trails: coniferous forests, rocky paths, and high-altitude plateaus with panoramic views of Triglav. We hike light — overnight stays are planned in mountain huts, so we carry only the essentials.
The route doesn't require special training. It’s ideal for those who want a dynamic mountain experience, away from crowded tourist spots, and wish to see Slovenia and the Alps in all their landscape variety — from lakes to mountain passes.

Each day is planned to allow time for rest, photography, and scenic pauses. We hike calmly, without rushing or chasing a schedule.
We ascend Mount Kanjavec (2,569 m) — one of the highest points on the route. The climb requires no special equipment and rewards you with stunning views of Mount Triglav.
All overnights are in established mountain huts, reducing backpack weight and making the hike easier. The huts provide beds with blankets, hot meals, the ability to charge your devices, and a warm place to relax after a day on the trail. This setup lets you focus on the journey itself, without distraction from fatigue.

On the first day, we meet in Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana. If you arrive during the day at Trieste (Italy), you can arrange your own transfer.
We check into the hotel and have free time to explore the city. You can stroll through the main streets, visit cozy riverside cafés, or hike up to the majestic Ljubljana Castle on a hill in the city center, offering panoramic views. From the top, you can see the Ljubljanica River, winding alleys, cathedrals, and charming buildings — and on a clear day, even the distant mountains.
In the evening, we meet for dinner at a local restaurant*, where the team leader will brief you on the days ahead.

In the morning, we leave Ljubljana by transfer to the trek’s starting point — about a 1.5-hour drive. On the way, we stop at Lake Bled, Slovenia’s most iconic natural attraction. You’ll have time for a short walk, some photos, and a taste of the famous local dessert — kremšnita.
We then continue to Lake Bohinj — the largest natural lake in the country, located at 525 m elevation. Before the hike begins, we stop at a scenic viewpoint for a panorama of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Our hiking route starts with a steady ascent through forested slopes. The trail is well-trodden, with occasional open sections. We gain elevation throughout the day and reach our first mountain hut, located near a high-altitude lake.

We begin the morning with breakfast at the mountain hut, then continue hiking. Today’s stage covers just 7.2 km.
Along the way, we’ll pass a small shepherd's hut where you can buy local cheeses. The route then leads to Black Lake, nestled below Mount Stador (1,688 m) — a beautiful spot for a break.
By the end of the day, we reach a mountain hut by the twin lakes. If weather permits, we’ll hike up to a nearby viewpoint to catch a sunset over the surrounding peaks.
Distance: 7.2 km | Ascent: 560 m | Descent: 320 m
We head into one of the most spectacular days of the trek — crossing the famed 7 Lakes of Triglav National Park. Expect dramatic rocky landscapes, sweeping views, and possibly encounters with wildlife like chamois, marmots, or alpine birds.
We’ll pause at a viewpoint near the Ledvica Lakes, then hike to the hut at Prehodavci, where we’ll have lunch overlooking the ridges.
In the afternoon, on the way to our next overnight stay, we ascend Mount Kanjavec (2,569 m) — the highest point of our route. From the summit, there’s a breathtaking view of the Julian Alps and Slovenia’s highest peak, Mount Triglav — featured on the national flag.
We overnight at a hut located at 2,150 m elevation.
Distance: 11.1 km | Ascent: 910 m | Descent: 450 m
We begin the final full hiking day with a 9.6 km trek featuring a major descent of 1,430 m.
The trail zigzags upward with views over the Zadnjica Valley, eventually bringing us to Luknja Pass (1,758 m).
From the pass, we descend into the Vrata Valley. The trail is loose underfoot but not technically difficult — it just requires attention and stamina. We finish the day at the Aljaž Lodge, where we spend our last night in the mountains.

The hike is complete — it’s time to head back. In the morning, we pack up and leave the hut by transfer toward Ljubljana.
Our first stop is at the Peričnik Waterfall. A short 15-minute walk leads to the unique feature of this site: the chance to step behind the curtain of water and experience the falls from within. The interplay of light and rock creates the feel of a mountain cave.
Afterward, we continue by road for about an hour. Estimated arrival time in Ljubljana is 1:00 PM.
Depending on weather conditions, trail status, and the group’s general preferences, the team leader may adjust the route.

Slovenia remains relatively undiscovered by mass tourism — and that’s its biggest advantage. It offers everything hikers seek: lakes, ridgelines, forests, valleys, and high mountain passes with panoramic views.
The country is clean, safe, and has a well-developed network of huts and hiking infrastructure. The Julian Alps are less crowded than other parts of Europe, yet equally stunning.
This is the perfect route for those who want to explore a new region in peace, far from tourist crowds.
Slovenia is part of the Eurozone, so the official currency is the euro (€). In cities, cafes, and most mountain huts, bank cards are accepted. However, in remote mountain areas, connectivity may be limited — so it’s best to carry some cash.

Recommended budget: around €90 to cover meals and drinks during the trek.
We stay in classic Slovenian mountain huts (“koča”). Each has beds with mattresses, blankets, and pillows. Bedding is usually not provided, so it’s recommended to bring a sleeping bag liner or lightweight sleeping bag.
Facilities typically include toilets and often the ability to charge phones. Showers may not be available at every hut, and hot water is not always guaranteed.
Meals are provided in hut canteens and consist of simple, hot dishes.
These aren’t hotels, but they also aren’t wild bivouacs — it’s basic mountain comfort that allows you to rest well between hiking days.
This is not a self-sufficient trek with heavy gear. You don’t need to carry a tent or cooking equipment — all nights are in huts with food provided.

The route doesn’t require extensive mountain experience or specialized gear. However, basic physical fitness is important — you should be ready to walk 6–11 km per day, with elevation changes.
The ascents and descents are generally moderate. The pace is adjusted to the group, with a focus on steady movement and comfort rather than speed. If you walk regularly or have done day hikes before, you’ll be fine.
In most parts of the route, mobile signal is available, though it may drop in gorges and remote sections.
Wi-Fi is generally not available in mountain huts. However, mobile data works in many places, especially at higher altitudes and open areas.
It’s a great chance to unplug and stay present in nature and the journey.
The minimum group size for this program is 5 participants. However, we’ve calculated prices for smaller groups too — only slightly increased, so we don’t go into the red ourselves.

The total estimated required expenses not included in the program price are around €140, broken down as follows: €50 for meals in restaurants during the first and part of the second day; €90 for food and drinks during the trek. In addition to this, we recommend bringing at least €50 extra for unexpected expenses.
