In this hike we can fully enjoy all the charms of the winter Carpathians. There will be snow-covered fir trees, and breaking the trail in the deep snow, and sharp, rocky ridges of Syvulya and Vysokaya. Overnight stays are to be spent in tents in the snow, because it's real winter hike! We are going to have views of snow-white mountains in the heart of Gorgany massif. In good weather from the height of more than 1800m you will see the tops of the "Ring Grofa", array of Dovbushanka, ranges of Arshitsa and Pishkonya, and on the horizon look Strymba, Bratkovskaya, Svidovets and even Hoverla with Petros! The hike is moderately difficult and for those, who want to try real winter mountains! Join us!

We’ll meet at Ivano-Frankivsk railway station, collect our hire kit and head to the village of Bystrytsia. From there, we’ll start our hike and climb the Tavpyshyrka Ridge. This is an area rarely visited in winter, so we’re in for a real taste of the winter Gorgany. We’ll spend the night in the woods on the ridge. In good weather, you can watch an unforgettable sunset over the winter mountains from here.
We’ll cover 10 km today, with an elevation gain of 800 m.
Today we continue our trek along the ridge towards the Rushyna mountain pasture. In the morning, we’ll cross several mountain pastures where we’ll need to make good use of our snowshoes. We’ll then head through the Peklo tract and reach the Rushyna mountain pasture by evening, where we’ll spend the night near the forest.
We’ll cover 8 km today, with an elevation gain of 100 m and an elevation loss of 300 m.
Today is the highlight of our trek, as we’ll be crossing the highest ridge of the Gorgany. From the Rushyna mountain pasture, we’ll climb Velyka Syvulia (1,836 m), then continue over the peaks of Lopushna and Borevka. Along the ridge, we’ll see defensive structures dating from the First World War. By evening, we’ll descend to the Borevka Pass into the woodland, where we’ll light a big bonfire. We’ll cook a delicious dinner, warm ourselves by the fire and share our impressions of the day.
We’ll cover 9 km today, with an elevation gain of 350 m and an elevation loss of 550 m.
We get up early and have a hearty breakfast. An exciting trek along the ridge in the opposite direction awaits us — via Igrovets and Vysoka. In winter, the rocks here take on very bizarre shapes with snow drifts, and the views are particularly striking. By evening, we descend towards the Matagiv Ridge. Today’s goal is to reach a small tourist shelter on the Matagiv Ridge. It is highly likely to be free, and we will spend the night there; otherwise, we will sleep in tents.
We’ll cover 8 km today, with an elevation gain of 480 m and an elevation loss of 350 m.
Today we’ll be descending from the Matagiv Ridge to the village of Osmoloda. It’s a shorter and more relaxed day after our strenuous mountain treks. Upon arrival, we’ll check into the mountain lodge, rest, share our experiences and celebrate the end of the trek.
We’ll cover 7 km today, with a total descent of 770 m.
We wake up, get ready and set off for Ivano-Frankivsk in a pre-booked minibus. We’ll have time to stroll through beautiful winter Ivano-Frankivsk, sit in a café and enjoy a delicious dinner. In the evening, we board the train and, full of memories, head home. Later, as we look through our photos in the evenings, we’ll be reminiscing for a long time about what a brilliant time we had on our winter trip!
Depending on the weather conditions and general wishes of the group, the teamleader has the right to make changes to the route.
Good weather conditions are one of the most important factors for a successful climb. During fog or snowfall, we will not see all the beauty of the Carpathians, but we will reach the peaks. But if there is a crazy wind, we may have to make changes to the route. Remember. The mountains have stood and will continue to stand, the health and safety of the group is most important.
We defined the difficulty as high, because 6 days of autonomous hiking with backpacks and overnight stays in tents, difficult weather conditions, often deep snow, icy slopes, heavy weight of backpacks, and living in low temperatures.
Special features: the opportunity to go on a challenging winter hike in wild places, get a unique experience, snowshoes are required.
As always, we recommend that you buy tickets in advance, although there are often vacant seats on trains a week before the start of the hike. You should buy your ticket so that you can be at the train station in Frankovsk by 10 a.m. on the day of the start of the hike. A slight delay is acceptable. Back you buy a ticket for the evening, best of all for 20-22 hours, then you'll have time to walk around Frankovsk and sit in one of its pubs. Buy tickets is worth it only after our confirmation of your participation in the hike, you can do this at the box office at the train station or online on the website "Ukrzaliznytsia".
The meeting place of the group is 35 Mykhailo Mulyk St., near Gorgana's store. The time is determined by the last arriving participant, usually it's 10 am. About 5-7 days before the hike we will send you by e-mail the exact time of the meeting and the contacts of the team leader. Don't forget to check your mail!
Classic winter weather with lots of snow and temperatures down to -10 degrees at night. Since the forest here is quite dense, the snow does not melt even when the past few days have been sunny.
Surely you are wondering what we will eat on a hike? Let's just say that you don't have to worry. Many participants say they eat better on the hike than they do at home. The basis of the menu is a simple meal of cereals and soups. You should not count on gourmet delicacies (although they can be).
If you do not eat any products, be sure to inform the consultant so that the team leader can slightly adjust the menu for you. We also recommend taking some yummies with you - nuts or sweets. Appetite on a hike is much better than at home.
Please note that the menu shown is indicative only. Team leaders usually have their signature dishes that they love to pamper participants with. And if you have dishes that you would like to receive on a hike, be sure to tell the consultant about it, as the team leader may have completely different preferences.

In some places there will be no connection, because we will be moving between the ridges. On the ridges a little catch, call once every 2 days home will be possible, adequate internet will not be available.
The weight of the backpack on this hike will be in the neighborhood of 15-20 kg when fully loaded with public gear. It could be considerably less if you have good individual gear.

The program has mandatory additional costs for transfers. Their amount you can check with the consultant, as it depends on the cost of fuel and is constantly changing.
There are also optional expenses. Participants buy dried porcini mushrooms, souvenirs, and like to have dinner in a restaurant (for example, in the legendary "Ten"). Minimum recommend to take from 1500 hryvnias. And the maximum is up to you.
