The winter Carpathians are like a fairy tale: the tops of the mountains are covered with snow caps, and a little lower there are forests of evergreen firs. Even lower there are fast mountain rivers, only partially covered with ice. And somewhere quite far away you can see Hutsul villages, scattered in the river valleys. This is a typical landscape of the winter Carpathian Mountains. Definitely worth a little cold to see it!
This hike is a real challenge for fans of winter and for those who are used to hiking too easy. We decided to complicate the program, and we will hike to all the highest peaks of the Ukrainian Carpathians in winter. This will be a great opportunity to test the stamina and prepare for the ascents to the tops of the world. During this hike you will learn even better how to use special equipment - ice-axe and crampons, you will learn how to set up camp on the treeless ridge in the wind, to build snow walls and shelters. This trek along the Chernogora is a real winter fairy tale at an altitude of 2000 m.
Transсhernogora is a real adventure and good physical work. The hike involves overnight stays in the snow on the Montenegrin Ridge. The hike is for those who want to feel all the harshness of winter in the mountains.

Gathering of the group in Ivano-Frankovsk at the railway station. Here you will see your guide and get acquainted with the other participants, who will become your friends at the end of the tour. We get acquainted, get on the bus and leave for the village Shibene. Upon arrival, passport control at the border checkpoint, as our hike will take place in the border area. Then we have lunch and climb up the snow-covered forest to the Vesnarka valley. We come to the lake Marichaika and stay for the night in the cabin in the forest. Tonight we have an evening of introductions.
Today we wake up early, have breakfast and go out on the route. The crossing is not long - 4 km, but we will need to gain altitude and reach the summit. During the day we will have the opportunity to admire the snow-white fir trees and feel the real Carpathian winter. At the top we set up camp near the observatory building and get ready to see off the sun.
Today we have a big hike, we will hike12 kilometers along the Chernogorsky ridge. On the way we will climb another two-thousand meter peak, Brebeneskul (2038 m), and see the frozen high-mountain lake Brebeneskul in a huge cirque under the Gutyn-Temnatyk mountain.
On the way to Nesamovyte lake we will climb the two-thousand meter high peak Reba (2001 m.). We will spend the night near the lake practically on the ridge, so it is necessary to make a place for tents by building windproof walls of snow.
Early ascent and back on the road - today we will climb the rugged Hoverla, the highest point of Ukraine (2061 m). On the way to it we will climb several more peaks, such as the rocky Turkul, Dancizh, Pozhizhevskaya and Breskul. On the left hand on the horizon we will see the sharp peaks of the Hutsul Alps, and on the right - the lower and more wooded ridges Kostricha and Kukul.
Having climbed to the top of Hoverla we will go down for the night to the forest area, to the so called "Jumper" - the depression of the main ridge between Hoverla and Petros. It's a cozy place, we'll sleep in the lodge for the night. We'll hike 9 kilometers today.
We finally got some rest, so we could sleep more in the morning. Today we have a half day - we'll leave the cozy cottage closer to lunch. Through the snowdrifts and the winter forest we will go under the Petros slopes, to the Holovcesk valley. There we will set up camp, we can practice building igloos and digging snow caves. We will check the equipment and get properly prepared for tomorrow's ascent to Petros.
Today we are going to climb Petros, which closes the Montenegrin ridge. The ascent is along the ridge with rocky ledges, and most likely we will need crampons and an ice axe. The ascent is quite steep and interesting. And the real gift for us will be the scenery, which in good weather opens from the top!
From Petros great view of the whole Montenegrin range; Svidovets and Gorgany - as on the palm, in the distance you can see the steep slopes of Marmaros! After drinking tea on the top and eating chocolate, we will start the descent towards the village of Kvasy, through the top of Sheshul. Also, depending on weather conditions, the descent from Petros to Yasinya village is also possible.
Going down to Kvasy, in the evening we pitch our tents on Menchul valley. If you go down to Jasinja, the best place to pitch your tents is on the Shissa clearing.
In the morning we wake up early and continue our descent in the direction of the village of Kvasy. We have to walk a little and mostly downhill, so by lunch we will get to civilization. We are going to enjoy mineral water in Kvasy and also hot banya (steam bath) - it's high time to sweat body and bones after such hard ordeal! Then we take a chartered bus and leave for Ivano-Frankivsk.
Depending on the weather conditions, condition and general wishes of the group, the Team Leader has the right to make changes to the route. Compliance with the teamleader's instructions is mandatory and not subject to discussion.

As always, we recommend that you buy tickets in advance, although there are often vacant seats on trains a week before the start of the hike. You should buy your ticket so that you'll be at the train station in Ivano-Frankovsk by 10 a.m. on the day of the start of the hike. A slight delay is acceptable. Back you buy a ticket for the evening, best of all for 20-22 hours, then you'll have time to walk around Frankovsk and have a drink in one of its pubs. Buy tickets is worth it only after our confirmation of your participation in the hike. You can do this at the ticket offices at the railway station or online on the website "Ukrzaliznytsia".
Good weather conditions are one of the most important factors for successful climbing. In fog or snowfall, we may not see all the beauty of the winter Carpathians. But if the wind blows, knocking us down, we may have to turn around. Remember! The mountains have stood and will stand, most important is the health and safety of the group.
Surely you are wondering what we will eat on a hike? Let's just say that you don't have to worry. Many participants say they eat better on the hike than they do at home. The basis of the menu is a simple meal of cereals and soups. You should not count on gourmet delicacies (although they can be).
If you do not eat any products, be sure to inform the manager so that the guide can slightly adjust the menu for you. We also recommend taking some yummies with you - nuts or sweets. Appetite on a hike is much better than at home.
Please note that the menu shown is indicative only. Guides usually have their signature dishes that they love to pamper participants with. And if you have dishes that you would like to receive on a hike, be sure to tell the manager about it, as the guide may have completely different preferences.

The meeting place of the group is the waiting room of the Ivano-Frankovsk railway station. The time is determined by the last arriving participant, usually it's 10 am. About 7 days before the hike we will send you an email with the exact time of the meeting and contacts of the instructor. Do not forget to check your mail!
The program has mandatory additional costs for transfers. Their amount you can check with the manager, as it depends on the cost of fuel and is constantly changing.
There are also optional expenses. Participants buy dried porcini mushrooms, souvenirs, and like to have dinner in a restaurant (for example, in the legendary "Ten"). Minimum recommend to take from 300 hryvnias. And the maximum is up to you.
