Freeride is a special pleasure! Once you've experienced the thrill of skiing down untouched snowfields and couloirs, it's hard to change it for prepared, refined resorts. However, riding on unprepared trails puts extra demands on the safety and preparation of the rider!
Freeride school on Dragobrat is a great opportunity for the beginners to learn how to freeride safely and beautifully.
We promise to show you some of the most interesting snow spots of our native Carpathian Mountains and... expand your limits. You have no idea where and how technically you can go down!
Freeride schools are 5-day programs based on the methods and standards of ISIA, IFMGA, CAA. Groups are divided into snowboarders and skiers. Suitable for beginners who are confident in skating/riding the red slopes, and progressives who want to improve their level and learn freeride tactics and avalanche literacy.
Attention! At the freeride school there is no chance to learn from the ground up, so you have to have some riding experience. If you have the experience, you are welcome to join our freeride program for the beginners!
If you are an experienced rider, we invite you to join our programs for freeride on snowcat:
- renting a snowmobile for freeride - 1 day program;
- freeride on the ratrak - 2 day program;
- Freeride on the ratrak - program for 4 days.
Risk management from the guide, assessment of avalanche conditions, the choice of a safe route, up to 8 participants per instructor.
If necessary, we will advise on training, equipment and tickets.
We do not cancel or reschedule groups. If the manager has given permission to buy a ticket, you can buy it with confidence. There will be no cancellation through our fault.

08:00 p.m. - Lecture "Freeride Technique".
10:00 a.m.-01:00 p.m. - Elements of freeride technique. Transition to off-piste skiing.
01:00 p.m-02:00 p.m. - Lunch break.
02:00 p.m.-04:00 p.m. - Exit outside the slopes. Working with avalanche equipment. Target search.
08:00 p.m. - Lecture "Avalanche safety".
10:00 a.m. - Freeride day on a snowmobile. Off-piste descents using elements of freeride technique. Terrain reading, choice of descent line. Speed, drops, steep riding.
08:00 p.m. - Lecture "Freeride tactics. Choice of descent line".
10:00 a.m. - Roll-out descents at the resort. Reinforcing the elements of technique. Carving.
12:00 a.m. - Backcountry. We drive freeride in a remote area. Independently we define a line of descents. There we also learn to dig a pothole to analyze the stability of the layers of the snow cover.
08:00 p.m. - Lecture "Organization of group descents. Rescue operations: algorithms for finding the victim in an avalanche.
10:00 - Backcountry. Hike to remote routes. Simulation of different situations, group work. Searching for the victim in an avalanche for time. Further recommendations to the participants.
In the case of favorable conditions it is possible to rent a snowcat for the program.
Depending on weather conditions, condition and general wishes of the group the instructor has the right to make changes to the route. Compliance with the instructions of the instructor is mandatory and non-negotiable.

You need good insurance to participate in the program. Please do not neglect this point. It has saved some participants thousands of dollars. Our insurance guidelines can be found here: "Insurance for Kuluar hikers".
Guides are based in a private manor "Zhuravel" and, depending on availability and the wishes of participants, couloirs can be accommodated here or in nearby hotels: Peak, Prolisok, Adrenalin, Skelja, etc.
There is an opportunity to order a bath with a view of the Carpathian Mountains (the cost from 400 UAH per hour, a minimum order of 2 hours - up to 8 people) and wood-fired sauna (from 150 UAH/person, up to 8 people).
In our free time (and it won't be much) we recommend to recuperate and rest before the next rich day of skiing. Our evenings and freeride lectures are held in the cafe "Koritsya", which is located on the second floor of the manor "U Zhuravly". Here you can also drink the most delicious masala on Dragobrat, enjoy the home atmosphere, friendly conversation and barbecue party. And the real tea ceremonies from the owner, Mikhail Crane, are legendary!
The weather in the mountains is not predictable. It often happens when the weather forecasters predict snowfalls, but the weather outside is sunny and calm. Or vice versa. Good weather conditions are one of the most important factors in the success of the program. In fog or snowfall, we can't see all the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains, but we can still enjoy a good ride on the snowy slopes. In case of stormy weather we can stay at the base to practice our technique and improve our skiing skills, or go down the safe slopes of Dragobrat. It is also possible to have a theoretical class or just relax in a fun company with table games and mulled wine.

You can also use the services of friendly rental centers in Kiev. For participants of freeride and freeride safari school programs you may get 10% discount in Svoboda rental center.

Snowboarding set for freeride (Snowboard for freeride, bindings, boots): 1 day 500 UAH, 3-5 days - 350 UAH/day.
Here you can also rent protection and clothes.
The total amount of mandatory additional costs not included in the price can be from 3500 UAH + train tickets. It all depends on your ability to ski, the number of climbs on the mountain, the availability of equipment, the cost of accommodation, etc. For example, some participants may ride only 1-2 times a day, while others have time to use up to 10 ski passes.
