The Zhytomyr region has long been known for its extraordinary nature - here, in cozy pine forests, real gems are hidden: deep lakes with clear, cool water and cliffs that are quite popular among rock climbers from all over Ukraine. We invite you to take a break from the daily city noise, enjoy the beauty of the forest and lakes, and gain useful rock climbing skills.
The program will be interesting for everyone without exception - novice tourists, families with children, and tourism "veterans" who haven't had the chance to visit here yet.
Experienced team leaders of the Kuluar Hiking Club will accompany the group throughout the entire route, making your trip as interesting and safe as possible! They will also hold a master class on tying tourist knots.
The program has been refined several times — we tried to make it as safe, comfortable, and informative as possible. In 2 days you will be taught the basics of rock climbing and will have the chance to climb routes of various difficulty levels.

On this weekend hike near Korostyshiv, you'll get: ascending and descending on a rope on the rocks under the supervision of an experienced team leader, the chance to gain experience and hear fascinating stories from the most seasoned guides of the "Kuluar" club, and much more.
If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city after a long week, or have long dreamed of getting a taste of the tourist life and trying rock climbing - this program is just for you! We'll pitch tents amid a fragrant pine forest, swim in lakes with water of an extraordinary color, and climb the rocks that surround them. It's a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with rock-climbing and mountaineering gear, and to learn how to ascend and descend on a rope on the rocks. Since the rocks of Korostyshiv have both challenging and very easy routes for beginners, this is the best way to learn the basics of rock climbing and try your first routes!
We meet in Kyiv near the exit of "Zhytomyrska" metro station at 9 in the morning. Minibuses to Zhytomyr and Korostyshiv depart from this point, and the ride takes just an hour to an hour and a half. We get off before Korostyshiv, amid the Zhytomyr forests, and walk to the campsite. Along the way, we'll pass the flooded Voronyi Quarry - a huge lake with water of the same color as in high-mountain lakes.
Our camp will be located on the shore of a small but very picturesque forest lake, which was also formed by the flooding of one of the granite quarries. The lake is surrounded by rocks, where we'll practice ascending and descending on a rope and gain rock-climbing skills. We'll pitch our tents, light a campfire, have lunch, and start our training. Those who wish to simply relax can enjoy the lake, the pine forest, and the surrounding rocks.
On the second day, we'll walk through pine forests and the picturesque valley of the Teteriv River. We'll visit the Voronyi quarry again, but this time we'll have plenty of time to take great photos and swim. The shores of the lake strongly resemble Karelian landscapes.
Several old quarries are located near Korostyshiv, which over time have turned into stunningly beautiful lakes with rocky shores. We'll move on to another such lake, known among locals as the "Korostyshiv Canyon". It's a popular spot, usually crowded.
Following forest trails, we'll reach the Teteriv River, on whose banks granite outcrops can also be found. One of these rocks, Felinski's Rock, has its own interesting history. A pagan shrine was once located here. Aloiza Felinski, the famous Polish poet, playwright, and translator known for "Barbara Radziwiłł", also loved to rest on this rock. By order of Gustav Olizar, a large inscription "Felinski" was carved into the rock, which has survived to this day.
We'll stroll through Korostyshiv park, whose alleys feature many interesting stone sculptures, and visit the main historical sites of this small town.
Full of emotions and impressions from the walk, we'll return to camp. If there's time left, we'll do a bit more climbing. In the evening, we'll pack up our tent camp and head back to Kyiv.

We check the weather forecast for the next few days and dress accordingly. Be prepared for anything - make sure to bring a raincoat!
The group meeting point is Zhytomyrska metro station (for those who need a transfer from Kyiv), or directly at the venue. About 5-7 days before the program, we will send you the exact meeting time and the team leader's contacts by email. Don't forget to check your mail.
A snack and tea/coffee during the day, hot meals and tea/coffee in the evening and morning, drinking water for all participants. Don't forget to mention in the form if you don't eat certain foods.
Good weather conditions are one of the most important factors for a successful activity. Depending on the weather, the program may change. The health and safety of the group are what matters most. In any case, dress according to the weather and check the forecast before departure. In case of rain, the activities will still take place, so dress accordingly.
