A day of meeting and preparation. The group gathers in Marrakech. Those who arrive earlier have the opportunity to walk around the city and get a bit used to the African January heat. That's what New Year in Morocco is like! Overnight in a hostel.
In the morning we gather and head to the village of Imi Ouglad, from where our journey through the High Atlas begins. The hour-and-a-half drive will pass interestingly and unnoticed, as we watch the colorful landscapes of the African mountains with small Berber settlements in the valleys through the windows. We will spend the night in the valley of the Ousertik River, located a few kilometers from the village, beyond a hill. Remember – tonight is the magical New Year's Eve, so let's all wish for a successful ascent of Toubkal. Just don't tell anyone about it, so that the wish comes true ;)
Throughout the day we will walk upstream along a mountain river to the highest village in the Atlas Mountains – Tacheddirt. Along the way, we will also pass many picturesque local settlements, which look original amid remote mountain slopes and green-covered banks.
Today we need to cross the Tizi n'Likemt Pass, at an altitude of 3555 meters. It's a long and difficult route that opens up a wonderful view of Mount Toubkal, the ascent of which is the main goal of our trip to Morocco. Having rested and admired the unsurpassed landscapes, we descend into the river valley, where we will stop for the night.
The road to the oasis lies among the desert, waterless slopes and gorges of the Atlas Mountains. So in the morning you need to stock up on water for the whole day. Only closer to evening will the lush greenery of trees appear on the horizon. Could it be a mirage?
After two difficult treks, today will be an easy day – we will climb a bit higher to the mountain Lake Ifni, located at an altitude of 2300 meters and the only natural body of water in the Atlas Mountains. We will set up camp on the shore of the lake and rest until evening, enjoying the silence and a living oasis among the empty mountain slopes.
Having rested yesterday, we are ready for new challenges. Today we have ahead of us the Tizi n'Ouanoums Pass (3664 m), the path to which runs through a steep mountain gorge. It seems that just a bit more and we will be able to climb Toubkal. But for now, sheer cliffs separate us from the summit. From the pass, we descend to the foot of the mountain, where there are many shelters for tourists from different countries who have come here to climb Toubkal – the highest point in North Africa.
A difficult and important day of our trek, so we wake up early, have breakfast and head to our goal – the summit of Mount Toubkal (4167 m). Crampons are essential, as at altitude the slopes are often covered in ice. The ascent itself will take 3–4 hours. From the summit, an unsurpassed panorama opens up of the High Atlas mountain range and the great Sahara Desert.
In case of bad weather, we have one reserve day in stock. So, if the ascent didn't work out yesterday – today there is every chance to fulfill your dream. We didn't come such a long way for nothing.
The trekking part of our New Year trip to Morocco is almost over. All that remains is to descend to the village of Imlil, from where we will take a bus to Marrakech. And there a shower, fragrant coffee and internet await us – things we've already managed to miss!
We promised you a chance to swim in the Atlantic Ocean. So today we head out on an excursion to the ancient city of the "blue boats" – Essaouira. We stroll through the city, visit the main sights, relax, and swim in the ocean.
We return to Marrakech and fly home. The New Year in Morocco turned out to be a great success!
Payment for the trip is made to the instructor in cash in US dollars on the first day of the trip.

At low altitude in January, Morocco has a very comfortable temperature – around +20°. Of course, as altitude increases, it will get colder.
Ukrainian citizens need to arrange a Morocco visa in advance at the embassy.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date – please check this before buying flights.

At low altitudes in Morocco in January, the temperature is very comfortable – around +20. Of course, it gets colder as altitude increases.
Climbing Toubkal is relatively simple, but in any case, participants should prepare physically. Start running a couple of months before the program begins and train at least 3 times a week. Try to run as long as possible at a comfortable pace. Remember, the better your shape, the more energy you'll have to enjoy the local scenery!
The only gear you may need is crampons. Their rental is included in the program cost.
Bring a chip bank card. Chip cards are accepted everywhere, you won't even need local currency. But a card with only a magnetic stripe might let you down. Also, don't forget to notify your bank to avoid your card being blocked abroad, if needed.
