Features of mountain tourist routes in Europe

It has long been no secret that the Alps are one of the most popular mountain tourism regions in Europe. The variety of local routes and rich cultural heritage attract millions of tourists every year. Whether you choose to hike in the mountains of Italy, hike from Chamonix in France, or take a guided tour of Switzerland, each country offers unforgettable emotions from scenic walks to challenging alpine routes.

There is a lot of choice, just think about the bliss that awaits you:

• The sharp peaks and twisting paths of the Italian Dolomites, which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List
• The French Alps, in particular the area around the Mont Blanc massif, which is a real mountain paradise for tourists
• A noble combination of natural harmony and comfort in hiking tours in Switzerland!

The main advantage of the routes we offer is "easy trekking" or freedom of movement. So the opportunity to fully enjoy nature and really focus only on relaxation is in your hands!

Hiking Tour de Mont Blanc through France, Italy, Switzerland

One of the most beautiful tracks in the world, decorated with a necklace of neighboring countries. The route through France, Italy, Switzerland with views of the snow-capped Mont Blanc peak, enveloped in several climatic zones... Can you imagine: the flavor of small alpine villages, the beauty of meadows with fresh aromas of flowers and herbs, lakes and passes smoothly turning into forest valleys and huge glaciers!

Here's why it's worth going on a trek around Mont Blanc (also known as the Tour du Mont Blanc).

The hike leads along the entire massif of the highest peak in Europe along marked hiking trails of medium difficulty. The ascents and descents are not very steep, but the terrain is really mountainous – from unstable stones to slippery areas. It's worth noting that even in July, snow can be found in some short sections, so you'll need warm clothes. But the most important piece of equipment is a raincoat for yourself and your backpack, because the rains can be powerful.

Hiking in the mountains of Switzerland – around Matterhorn

Trekking in Switzerland can undoubtedly be the most impressive experience of your life. The canonical outlines of the Matterhorn are the hallmark of the Swiss Alps, so this trek will give you an invaluable gift of emotions and pleasure. You will enjoy all the beauty of a recognizable mountain surrounded by glaciers, immersion in the wilderness of picturesque lakes, spruce forests and valleys covered with edelweiss.

KULUAR gives you a full immersion in the atmosphere, because this route is in the format of traditional European hiking (hut to hut) – without heavy backpacks, without tents, with overnight stays in comfortable alpine chalets along the entire route.

As for the difficulty. Of course, a summer hike in the Alps is characterized by higher altitudes than the Ukrainian Carpathians, but we have designed the program in a way that is comfortable for acclimatization. Staying in the town of Zermatt at an altitude of 1600 meters will allow the body to get used to it and move higher without difficulty. In general, if you do not have serious cardiovascular diseases, this track is quite possible for you!

The best time of year for trekking in Europe

When is the best time to pack a backpack for a mountain hike in the Alps? The best answer is: it depends on your preferences 😉 Some people enjoy the frosty air and piles of snow, while for others the sunshine and the feeling of warm water of mountain lakes are important... Nevertheless, the tourist season and travelers' reviews indicate that the most comfortable period is from mid-July to early September. Of course, it's a sin not to see the Golden Autumn in the Dolomites. The weather at this time is mild and pleasant from +19°C to +22°C during the day, and about +15° at night. By the way, almost all mountain shelters in the Alps are open at this time, which is also a significant advantage.

It is worth considering that with every 100 meters of altitude gain in the Alps, it gets colder by about half a degree. Therefore, in summer, you should take a warm jacket, socks, a light hat, and gloves.

Summer weather in the Alps of Italy, France and Switzerland

Summer weather in the Alps of Italy, France, and Switzerland is ideal for mountain travel. However, each region has its own seasonal characteristics that should be taken into account when planning your route.

• Italian Alps. In summer, in particular in the Dolomites, the average daytime temperature ranges from +15°C to +25°C at altitudes up to 2 thousand meters. It is cooler at night, especially in the highlands. Summer brings long, sunny days with little precipitation, making it a pleasant time for trekking. However, in July and August there can be short-term thunderstorms, so you should be prepared for a sudden change in weather.
• The French Alps are characterized by a mild and favorable climate, especially at an altitude of 1–2.5 thousand meters. Temperatures during the day range from +10°C to +20°C, but higher up on the passes it can be much cooler, especially in the morning and evening. July and August are the peak months for trekking, as most routes, including the De Mont Blanc tour, are available for travel. Thanks to favorable weather conditions and a sufficient number of sunny days, you can enjoy the vivid landscapes. However, as in Italy, thunderstorms can be a frequent occurrence, especially in the afternoon.
• The Swiss Alps are characterized by stable, albeit slightly lower, weather. The average daytime temperature at altitudes up to 2 thousand meters is from +10°C to +20°C. At night, it can drop to +5°C or lower, especially at higher altitudes. Some passes may still have residual snow.

Pros and cons of alpine trekking in the off-season

The off-season in the Alps is from April to June and from September to November – this is when both the weather and trekking conditions change. It has its own positive and not so positive aspects. Let's take a closer look.

Advantages of alpine trekking in the off-season:

• Fewer tourists – this allows you to enjoy peace and solitude, especially important on popular routes
• Reduced prices – many hotels and alpine shelters offer discounts on accommodation and services
• Beauty of nature – spring brings bright greenery and blooming meadows to the Alps, while autumn decorates the mountains with golden and red hues. This is a great time to take pictures and enjoy the natural scenery.

Cons of alpine trekking in the off-season

• Unpredictability of the weather – sudden changes in temperature, frequent rains, and sometimes even snowfall in the highlands are possible. This makes planning more difficult and requires more careful preparation.
• Closure of some routes and shelters – due to snow that has not yet melted in the spring or has already fallen in the fall, some high-mountain routes may be closed, and with them alpine shelters, which limits the options for overnight stays
• Short daylight hours – days are getting shorter, which limits the time for trekking, rest and photo shoots, and requires more precise route planning to get back to the place of overnight stay before dark

Staying in the mountains is not only a unique experience, but also new acquaintances, adventures and unique landscapes – both on the top and in the valley. Alpine trekking with Kuluar is a real adventure that will give you an unforgettable experience! Great mountains are waiting for you, so choose the tour you like the most!
