Required documents
Citizens of Russia do not need a visa for Chile and Bolivia.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date – please check this before buying flights.
Citizens of Ukraine also do not need a visa for Chile. A Bolivian visa can easily be obtained at the border or arranged in advance in Kyiv (cost 50–100$), providing a minimal package of documents.
Formally, entry into Bolivia requires an international certificate of yellow fever vaccination. It can be done in Kyiv no later than 10 days before departure. But if you are not planning to visit jungle areas, you can travel without the vaccination.
Upon departure, airline staff may ask to see a return ticket; without it, you may not be allowed into the country or even boarded on the flight at departure.
Weather and climate
Atacama is characterized by a typical desert climate – very hot during the day and cool at night. Given the high altitude, nighttime temperatures can easily drop to slightly below zero. The tourist season in Atacama is year-round. December-March, when it's summer in this hemisphere, is good for climbing volcanoes and high mountains, with less snow on the peaks during these months. In Uyuni, the rainy season starts in December, when the lake will look like a "mirror", but in January the salt flat may be too flooded, so it's better to go before the New Year.
Be sure to bring a good membrane jacket with pants to protect against possible rain and wind, and don't forget sunscreen. Also don't forget warm fleece and thermal underwear. Take care of quality equipment for climbing volcanoes.
