Marmarosh Ridge, or the Hutsul Alps

Somewhere in a secluded corner of the Ukrainian Carpathians, on the border with Romania, lurks the humble Marmaros. This mountain range is quite unlike the rest of our Carpathian Mountains

On its expanses stretched mountains with rocky slopes and sharp peaks, between which stretch deep valleys (up to 1500 m) with blue glacial lakes. This is the only place in our country where even in summer in some corners you can see unmelted snow.

This region is distinguished by its landscapes, flora and fauna. Behind the deciduous-coniferous forests, on high meadows, you can find the rarest species of plants – edelweiss and wild daffodils. Only here lives the fastest creature on our planet – the peregrine falcon, which can fly up to 322 kilometers per hour! And in the spring and summer, when nature thrives in a variety of colors of flowers, Marmarosa becomes a real Alpine meadow! That is why they are called the Hutsul Alps.

The highest mountain in the range is Pop Ivan Marmarosh, 1936 m high. It is shaped like an Egyptian pyramid with steep serrated slopes. In the spring, when the snow falls from the top, there are small lakes around the mountain. Since the mountain is located in the border area, to climb the need to get a pass at the frontier post in the village of Delovoye. By the way, it is in this village is a memorial sign of the Geographical Center of Europe.

Every year, hiking in Marmarosa becomes more and more popular among hikers and green tourism. After all, thanks to its inaccessibility, this region has preserved its pristine beauty. Forests with fluffy firs, glades with flowering daffodils and “chervona ruta”, austere peaks and crystal mirrors of the lakes will appear before your eyes, as thousands of years ago.

Especially amazing period to visit the Marmarosh Ridge is the May holidays. During these months, winter is just beginning to die down. And, while the valleys are full of blooming fields of rhododendrons, on the tops of the mountains there is still snow and frost reigns. The colorful meadows against the backdrop of snow-white mountains is truly an impressive and unforgettable sight! All this you can see in our 9-day hike in the Carpathian Mountains on May holidays.

But another nice bonus, in addition to the magical scenery and fabulous beauty of nature, in a hike through the Hutsul Alps can be a real Marmarosh diamantes! Yes, yes, there are such wonderful stones, for which you do not even have to dig – just look carefully under your feet. Maybe you will be lucky and find your own rock crystal, which will protect you from all kinds of evil, give you self-sufficiency and confidence, protecting and improving your aura.

Whatever your purpose in coming here – to relax from nature, to discover new horizons, to search for precious stones or simply to plunge into adventure and travel – be prepared that Marmarosa will not let you go just like that. They will penetrate into the most hidden corners of your heart and leave a piece of themselves there, warming you with warm memories and joyful impressions.
