You can dream about anything, but dreaming about the mountains is something special! I dreamed, no, I even raved about winter Carpathians, so I planned the trip for two long years, and it just never worked out. This year too it was all hanging by a thread whether my dream would come true... For a long time I couldn't choose the best company, I was nervous that I'd go and have to sleep and eat with strangers. But the mountains... the mountains drew me in. So I waved it all off, tossed aside all my doubts, called, booked a spot, and the next day bought a ticket to Ivano-Frankivsk and started packing. Of everything I wanted to take, I forgot half, but thanks to Kuluar manager Anna, who gave me a list of things I needed. Good thing everything on the list got packed, and I didn't lose my head from happiness. Upon arrival, a transfer was already waiting for me and the other group members. Well... it was quiet in the car, hardly anyone talked. I got a bit sad, thinking that's it, the trip is ruined... but the mountains, they're so great!!! The mood came back, a smile on my face again!!! We arrived in Lazeshchyna, where we stayed in a cozy house with very friendly hosts who also fed us well. By the way, I had the best view from my window, onto Hoverla and Petros. Yes, yes, yes, I'm a lucky one! After settling in and eating, we went for a walk along snow-covered forest trails, through a snowy forest. It was a real forest fairy tale, exactly as I imagined it as a child. While walking, we got to know each other, became closer, it got more fun. The next day — early wake-up and the ascent of Hoverla. The weather was clear... how lucky we were, as we could see all of the majestic Carpathians (the Chornohora and Marmarosy ridges), the beautiful Petros. Photos, tea, coffee, and back to the base by evening... While descending, we got to know each other even better and became like old friends. Coming down from the mountain, we arrived in Lazeshchyna, where a delicious dinner and a banya were waiting for us. You can go to a banya in the city too, but it's not the same as it was there! And our guide showed us how to really steam... so Andriy really steamed us all). On the third day we were warned about the weather conditions, but some daredevils decided to try anyway. Again an early wake-up, a hearty breakfast, and off we went! Half of the group and an experienced guide. We met the sunrise at the start of the ascent of Petros, the weather conditions worsened with every minute... we thought the wind would lift us up and carry us back to the banya, telling us to sit and not budge for the rest of the trip... and then, when only 200 meters of elevation gain remained to the summit, our guide said: that's it, boys and girls, we need to turn back or trouble awaits! I had long dreamed of climbing Petros in winter, and I was very upset that the weather worsened, but I'm very grateful that Andriy was with us and turned us back, since everything was extreme and unclear how all our wishes could have ended... We came down to the koliba, made a fire, sat down to warm up and drink tea, shared impressions of the climb and sang songs, planned the way back. In the evening a delicious dinner and banya awaited us again. By that day it already felt like I was relaxing with old friends. It was so easy and fun to talk with everyone. This was my first commercial hike with Kuluar-pokhody v hory myra, but not my first time in the mountains. It's amazing how fun and active a weekend can be with people you don't know... how much you can eat and drink (I mean Carpathian tea), how funny the guides can be and what hilarious stories there are. I want to say to those who want to have a fun and active time, I recommend spending it together with Kuluar, and if your guides happen to be Vova Vasylyshyn and Andrzej Pylypiuk, they will do everything they can to make sure you enjoy the hike. However, there is one more very important thing! You need to choose a hike according to your physical abilities and mental preparation, so if you don't know what a winter mountain hike is, or generally what hiking is... you might be disappointed.
