New Year on Kilimanjaro

Climbing Kilimanjaro is our traditional New Year’s programme. And it’s wonderful that Tanzania, having reopened its borders, is helping to keep our club tradition alive. Kili is the continent’s highest peak, an extinct volcano whose snow-capped summit towers over the Maasai Plateau. It has inspired many writers, film-makers and singers, and legends have been woven around it. That is why climbing Kilimanjaro at New Year is a brilliant way to recharge your batteries, to escape the daily grind, and to leave all your old troubles high up in the mountains, returning to the new year with fresh thoughts and ideas.

After visiting the summit, you can continue exploring the continent by paying a visit to the Maasai people and going on a safari to see the wild animals roaming freely in Tanzania’s nature reserves. To round off your trip, the snow-white beaches of Zanzibar and a heavenly holiday on the shores of the Indian Ocean await you.

We’ll climb to the ‘roof of Spain’ – Mount Teide – and peer into the gigantic crater of Pico Viejo; we’ll walk through the legendary Masca Gorge down to the ocean and return by boat along the cliffs of Los Gigantes, all whilst carrying only light rucksacks.
