I definitely wanted to "make use of" my annual Schengen visa, opened last year through Poland but never used. At first I planned to travel around the main cities, but somehow couldn't find company, and going alone didn't feel very appealing. Everything was decided when I saw an ad for a trek on Facebook – I realized I definitely wanted to go to the mountains, and the Tatras in Poland seemed like the perfect option. The budget for the trek slightly exceeded what I had planned for the cities, but after a bit of hesitation I decided to go, because the route was just so alluring with its beauty. Besides, I hadn't been in the mountains for a year and a half since the Lycian Way, and my body was simply begging to get under a backpack.
