Spoiler alert — I didn't make it to base camp. Not this time🙃
Intro. Six months ago, I never imagined that my thoughts would turn into reality and eventually take us to the Himalayas.
Until recently, I was an urban kid, a lover of coconut lattes and European grandmothers. And only this summer did I finally grow up and discover what hiking/tents, backpacks, and mountains are for, besides snowboarding.
Nepal is something else! I expected it to be so beautiful that I wouldn't be able to hold back my tears. But I only cried when four of our group went to conquer EBC, while the rest of the group was forced to descend.
Outro. It was the greatest trip to the mountains, to the amazing nature of a still wild land. And you know, I'm glad that they haven't built “nice” roads and logistics there yet. After all, Nepal remains true to itself, its traditions and way of life, crystal clear and far from the civilization we are used to.
I still can't figure out how we endured everything and no one in the group ever complained: snowfall, falling rocks, downpours that left us soaked to the skin, and even an earthquake.
One thing is clear — the whole group, including our team leader Andriy Kharantyn, was one cohesive organism. Supporting each other, singing songs to the guitar, making 100,500 decisions. And all together. It's really lucky😌
This track is about testing yourself for strength, about turning off any desires except the basic ones: to get there, eat hot food, and sleep (if you're lucky, take a shower). It's about the eternal — the mountains — and the temporary — us. It's about accepting that anything can go wrong and using all your resources to try your luck. It's about excitement, humility, and silence from the “worldly.”
I'll be back because I have to get to base camp. If nature allows. She's in charge there.
